White Sox 4, Orioles 2 at Baltimore (night game):
Scoring two runs in the ninth inning, thw White Sox handed the Orioles their ninth straight loss, 4-2. The score was 2-2 when Harold Baines opened the ninth with a single and came home on a triple by Jim Morrison. Morrison was thrown out at the plate on an attempted squeeze bunt by Bill Almon, but Almon scored when Ron LeFlore followed with a double.

Angels 7, A's 2 at California (night game):
A pair of three-run innings boosted the Angels to a 7-2 victory over the A's. After Brian Downing hit his sixth homer of the season to offset the A's first-inning run, the Angels notched three runs in the second on a wild pitch, single by Downing and sacrifice fly by Rod Carew. A two-run single by Tim Foli and run-scoring single by Bob Boone accounted for three runs in the third inning. A's starter Matt Keough was ejected in that frame by third base umpire Rich Garcia after he ignored warnings to refrain from going to the nape of his neck.

Royals 11, Indians 6 at Kansas City (night game):
Lashing out 16 hits, the Royals thumped the Indians, 11-6. K.C. broke a 4-4 tie in the fourth inning on a single by John Wathan, triple by George Brett, double by Amos Otis and a sacrifice fly by Lee May. After the Tribe cut the deficit to 7-6 on a two-run homer by Andre Thornton in the fifth, the Royals put the game away in the sixth with a four-run outburst highlighted by a two-run homer by Hal McRae.

Tigers 9, Yankees 1 at New York (night game):
The Tigers recorded their seventh straight victory, a 9-1 rout of the Yankees, as Dan Petry went the route on a seven-hitter. The Tigers scored twice in the second inning on an RBI single by Alan Trammell and sacrifice fly by Lou Whitaker, and Larry Herndon tripled in a run and scored on an infield grounder by John Wockenfuss in a two-run third. The Tigers kayoed Dave Righetti in the fourth as they upped their margin to 6-0 on an RBI single by Chet Lemon and a sacrifice fly by Herndon.

Twins 12, Mariners 4 at Seattle (night game):
Ron Washington collected four hits to pace an 18-hit attack that carried the Twins to a 13-4 blasting of the Mariners. Minnesota tallied four times in the second inning on a leadoff homer by John Castino, two-run single by Rob Wilfong and RBI single by Randy Johnson. Johnson's first major league homer -- a two-run shot -- climaxed a four-run outburst in the fourth inning. A two-run single by Butch Wynegar capped a four-run seventh. Roger Erickson went the route despite being tagged for 13 hits.

Brewers 2, Rangers 1 at Texas (night game):
Moose Haas and Rollie Fingers combined to hurl the Brewers to a 2-1 verdict over the Rangers. Haas went eight innings and retired 15 of the last 17 batters he faced to get the victory, and Fingers pitched the ninth to gain the save. The Brewers scored in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Cecil Cooper and registered the decisive marker in the fifth when Gorman Thomas doubled, reached third on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Don Money.

Red Sox 5, Blue Jays 4 at Toronto (night game):
Homers by Jim Rice and Carney Lansford sparked the Red Sox to a 5-4 victory over the Blue Jays. The Sox scored in the first inning on a single by Carl Yastrzemski, and Lansford gave Boston a 2-0 lead in the fourth with a bases-empty blast. Rice, who singled home a run in the sixth, belted a two-run round-tripper in the eighth.

Padres 6, Braves 3 at Atlanta (night game):
Sixto Lezcano's second homer of the game, a three-run blast in the top of the 12th inning, enabled the Padres to extend their winning streak to nine games by defeating the Braves, 6-3. The score was 3-3 when Gene Richards opened the 12th with a double. Two outs later, Ruppert Jones was intentionally walked by Atlanta relief ace Rick Camp, but Lezcano spoiled the strategy by drilling the ball over the fence. The contest was deadlocked, 2-2, after nine innings. The Padres went ahead, 3-2, in the top of the 11th on a run-scoring single by Kurt Bevacqua, but Atlanta tied it in the bottom of the frame on an RBI single by Glenn Hubbard.

Pirates 12, Cubs 10 at Chicago (day game):
Omar Moreno drove in four runs and Mike Easler and Tony Pena each had three RBIs as the Pirates outslugged the Cubs, 12-10. The Bucs took the lead to stay with a four-run uprising in the second inning on an RBI single by Easler, two-run double by Pena and sacrifice fly by Moreno. They broke the game open in the fifth on run-scoring singles by Easler and Pena and a two-run single by Moreno. Ryne Sandberg hit two homers for the Cubs, the first round-trippers of his major league career.

Astros 7, Reds 3 at Houston (night game):
Back-to-back homers by Art Howe and Phil Garner climaxed a six-run explosion in the third inning that carried the Astros to a 7-3 victory over the Reds. Reds starter Tom Seaver walked the bases loaded in the third before giving up a two-out, two-run single to Ray Knight. Howe then rapped a three-run circuit clout and Garner followed with his round-tripper.

Expos 5, Mets 4 at Montreal (day game):
Driving in three runs with a two-run homer and game-winning single, Al Oliver paced the Expos to a 5-4 decision over the Mets. After the Mets tied the game at 4-4 in the top of the ninth inning on an RBI triple by Mookie Wilson, the Expos loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the frame on a single by Rodney Scott, walk to Terry Francona and infield hit by Andre Dawson. Oliver then singled over second base to end the game. Oliver's round-tripper came in the fourth inning and tied the contest at 2-2.

Cardinals 9, Phillies 2 at Philadelphia (night game):
Scoring in clusters of three, the Cardinals rolled to their 11th straight triumph, 9-2 over the Phillies. The Redbirds got three runs in the fourth inning on RBI singles by George Hendrick, Dane Iorg and Ozzie Smith, and three more in the sixth on singles by Bob Forsch, Lonnie Smith, Tommy Herr and Keith Hernandez and an error by left fielder Gary Matthews. Hendrick drilled a two-run homer in the seventh and, two outs later, Ozzie Smith blasted a round-tripper.

Dodgers 9, Giants 0 at San Francisco (night game):
Spacing seven hits, Bob Welch pitched the Dodgers to their second straight shutout -- a 9-0 blanking of the Giants -- as Ron Cey led the Los Angeles attack with a homer, double, two singles and four RBIs. The Dodgers took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly by Mike Scioscia and added three runs in the fifth on four hits, two walks and a sacrifice fly. The key blows in that outburst were a double by Pedro Guerrero and a single by Cey. Cey's homer came in the eighth after singles by Ken Landreaux and Guerrero.
