Today's scores and summaries:

Red Sox 7, Royals 5 at Boston (night game):
Bob Stanley gave up just two hits while pitching five innings of scoreless relief as the Red Sox won their eighth straight game, downing the Royals, 7-5. The Sox broke a 5-5 tie in the fifth inning when Jim Rice scored as Glenn Hoffman bounced into a double play. A single by Rich Gedman drove in Boston's run in the eighth.

Mariners 7, Indians 4 at Cleveland (night game):
Homers by Dave Henderson and Todd Cruz capped a five-run explosion in the 11th inning that lifted the Mariners to a 7-4 triumph over the Indians. The game was tied, 2-2, when Thad Bosley opened the 11th with an infield hit and took second on a single by Richie Zisk. After Lenny Randle ran for Zisk, Jim Maler doubled to score Bosley. A sacrifice fly by Al Cowens delvered Randle and, after Jim Essian bounced into a fielder's choice, Henderson clouted a two-run homer and Cruz followed with a solo shot. The game was played under protest by the Indians because of the ejection of third baseman Toby Harrah by umpire Bill Kunkel after Harrah batted in the first inning. Harrah, who had entered the game with a 14-game hitting streak, was accused of using an illegal bat.

White Sox 11, Brewers 2 at Milwaukee (night game):
Ron LeFlore's first career grand slam highlighted a seven-run second inning as the White Sox routed the Brewers, 11-2, ending Milwaukee's five-game winning skein. Steve Kemp blasted a two-run homer in the first inning. Carlton Fisk, who also hit a solo homer, had a two-run single in the second, and Tom Paciorek drove in a second-inning run with a double.

Tigers 5, Twins 2 at Minnesota (night game):
Posting his fourth complete game and fourth straight victory, Jack Morris hurled the Tigers to a 5-2 decision over the Twins. A bases-loaded single by Lou Whitaker with two out in the second inning drove in Detroit's first two runs and Lance Parrish cracked his first homer of the season leading off the fourth. Enos Cabell and Larry Herndon drilled consecutive RBI doubles in the fifth.

Angels 3, Yankees 1 at New York (night game):
Reggie Jackson made a triumphant return to Yankee Stadium, sparking the Angels to a 3-1 triumph over the Yankees in a game shortened by rain to seven innings. With the game tied, 1-1, Jackson led off the fifth inning with a single, reched second on a sacrifice, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a suicide squeeze bunt by Bob Boone. Jackson then led off the seventh with a home run. New York fans greeted Jackson warmly and hailed him with signs throughout the park.

Blue Jays 8, Rangers 4 at Toronto (night game):
A bases-loaded triple by Willie Upshaw keyed a four-run rally in the third inning that propelled the Blue Jays to an 8-4 triumph over the Rangers. Toronto was trailing, 3-1, when Damaso Garcia led off the bottom of the third with a single and went to second on a single by Rance Mulliniks. After the runners moved up on a wild pitch, Al Woods walked to fill the bases. Upshaw then clubbed his three-bagger and subsequently scored on a sacrifice fly by John Mayberry. Alfredo Griffin and Garth Iorg stroked RBI singles in the seventh stanza.

Pirates 10, Braves 4 at Atlanta (night game):
Two homers by Jason Thompson and a grand slam by Tony Pena powered the Pirates to a 10-4 thumping of the Braves, Atlanta's fifth straight loss. The Bucs took a 2-0 lead in their first turn at bat on a single by Dave Parker and Thompson's first round-tripper. Pena's blast came in the fifth after a single by Johnny Ray, walk to Parker and intentional walk to Mike Easler. Thompson drilled his second homer leading off the seventh.

Reds 6, Cubs 3 at Chicago (day game):
A two-run homer by Johnny Bench triggered the Reds to a 6-3 decision over the Cubs. The Reds were behind, 2-1, in the fifth inning when Bench unloaded his round-tripper to put Cincinnati ahead. The Reds locked up the game with a three-run outburst in the seventh on singles by Dave Concepcion and Bench, a two-run double by Cesar Cedeno and an error by left fielder Steve Henderson. Bruce Berenyi received credit for the win, becoming the first N.L. hurler to get four victories.

Dodgers 3, Phillies 0 at Los Angeles (night game):
Jerry Reuss twirled his second consecutive shutout as the Dodgers topped the Phillies, 3-0. The veteran lefty yielded just four hits after tossing a one-hitter against Houston in his previous start. Ron Cey led off the second inning with a walk and Pedro Guerrero followed with a homer. Dusty Baker delivered an RBI single in the eighth.

Padres 8, Mets 5 at San Diego (night game):
Rookie righthander Eric Show allowed only two hits in five innings of relief as the Padres extended their winning streak to 11 games with an 8-5 triumph over the Mets. Show took over at the start of the fifth inning and shut out New York the rest of the way. The Padres went ahead, 6-5, in the bottom of the fourth inning after Luis Salazar reached second base safely when Bob Bailor dropped his fly ball. Salazar went to third base on a groundout and scored on an infield pinch-single by Kurt Bevacqua. Sixto Lezcano doubled home a pair of runs in the fifth inning.

Expos 3, Giants 2 at San Francisco (night game):
