A's 9, Orioles 6 at Baltimore (night game):
A sacrifice fly by Dwayne Murphy scored the tie-breaking run in a three-run ninth inning that gave the A's a 9-6 triumph over the Orioles.

White Sox 3, Tigers 2 at Chicago (night game):
Ron LeFlore's home run with one aboard in the fifth inning was the deciding blow as the White Sox subdued the Tigers, 3-2, behind the three-hit pitching of Dennis Lamp and reliever Salome Barojas, who earned his sxith save.

Indians 5, Mariners 1 at Cleveland (night game):
The Indians, with Lary Sorensen pitching a five-hitter for his first victory of the season, turned back the Mariners, 5-1. A two-run single by Andre Thornton in the first inning was the key blow.

Blue Jays 7, Royals 0 at Kansas City (night game):
Buck Martinez drove in four runs with a three-run homer in the fourth inning and a single in the sixth as Dave Stieb pitched a five-hitter and gained his first victory of the season, beating the Royals, 7-0.

Angels 2, Yankees 0 at New York (night game):
The Angels broke a scoreless tie with two runs in the ninth inning to defeat the Yankees, 2-0. A hit-and-run single by Bob Boone, scoring Jose Moreno from second base, and a sacrifice fly by Brian Downing produced the runs to support Geoff Zahn's pitching.

Braves 3, Cubs 0 at Atlanta (night game):
Back-to-back homers by Dale Murphy and Bob Horner in the eighth inning, breaking up a pitching duel between Fergie Jenkins and Joe Cowley, propelled the Braves past the Cubs, 3-0. Murphy's blast followed a single by Claudell Washington.

Dodgers 4, Phillies 0 at Los Angeles (night game):
Burt Hooton allowed one hit, a fourth-inning single by Ivan DeJesus, in pitching the Dodgers to a 4-0 decision over the Phillies. The Dodgers scored the only run they needed in the first inning when Ken Landreaux walked, advanced on Dusty Baker's single and Landreaux and Baker executed a double steal to set the stage for Steve Garvey's sacrifice fly.

Pirates 9, Astros 6 at Pittsburgh (night game):
Lee Lacy singled, stole second and third and scored on Bill Madlock's single in the fifth inning, when the Pirates broke a 6-6 tie en route to a 9-6 victory over the Astros. Tony Pena and Dave Parker hit homers for the Bucs.

Padres 6, Mets 0 at San Diego (day game):
Tim Lollar allowed five hits while pitching his first complete game in the major leagues and stroked his second home run in the fourth inning to lead the Padres past the Mets, 6-0.

Giants 7, Expos 3 at San Francisco (night game):
A three-run homer by Darrell Evans, his third round-tripper of the season, highlighted a five-run outburst in the first inning as the Giants spanked the Expos, 7-3. The blow came off Ray Burris, who was handed his fourth straight defeat.
