Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 9, Angels 4 at Baltimore (night game):
Jim Palmer went the route to earn his first victory of the season as the Orioles thumped the Angels, 9-4. The Birds broke a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the fourth inning on a two-run double by Rick Dempsey and an RBI single by Rich Dauer. Gary Roenicke slammed a homer in the bottom of the sixth.

Red Sox 7, Rangers 1 at Boston (night game):
Backed by a 12-hit attack, Mike Torrez pitched his first complete game of the season as the Red Sox defeated the Rangers, 7-1, Texas' seventh straight loss. The Sox scored in the first inning on an RBI single by Carl Yastrzemski and added another run in the second on an error by first baseman Lamar Johnson. A double by Wade Boggs keyed a three-run fourth.

Tigers 6, White Sox 4 at Chicago (night game):
The Tigers scored two runs in the 11th inning to down the White Sox, 6-4. The score was 3-3 after nine innings and both teams tallied once in the 10th -- the Tigers on a leadoff homer by Larry Herndon and the Sox on an RBI single by Steve Kemp. With one out in the top of the 11th, Lou Whitaker singled and Salome Barojas replaced Jerry Koosman on the hill. Chet Lemon continued the rally with a single that sent Whitaker to third. Enos Cabell then hit a grounder to third baseman Jim Morrison, whose throw home was too late to get Whitaker. Kirk Gibson added insurance with a run-scoring single. Prior to Gibson's hit, Barojas had not allowed an earned run in 14 innings of relief.

A's 8, Indians 0 at Cleveland (night game):
Permitting just three hits, Rick Langford hurled the A's to an 8-0 blanking of the Indians. Dwayne Murphy drove in three runs with a two-run homer in the third inning and an RBI single in the fifth, and Jeff Newman drove home four runs with a run-scoring single in the sixth and three-run double in the seventh.

Royals 8, Blue Jays 7 at Kansas City (night game):
A squeeze bunt produced the winning run as the Royals edged the Blue Jays, 8-7. The game was tied, 7-7, when Frank White reached first safely with two out in the bottom of the eighth on an error by third baseman Rance Mulliniks. A single by Onix Concepcion advanced White to third, from where he raced home on a bunt by Cesar Geronimo.

Twins 7, Brewers 4 at Minnesota (night game):
A two-run homer by Ron Washington, solo blast by Gary Gaetti and two-run triple by Kent Hrbek powered the Twins to a 7-4 victory over the Brewers. Hrbek's three-bagger came in the first inning and he scored on a sacrifice fly by Randy Johnson. Gaetti slugged a leadoff round-tripper in the second and Washington cracked his first major league homer -- a two-run clout -- to climax a three-run seventh.

Mariners 6, Yankees 3 at New York (night game):
Gaylord Perry recorded his 299th career victory, spacing seven hits through 8 2/3 innings as the Mariners posted a 6-3 triumph over the Yankees. Seattle trailed, 2-1, going into the eighth inning, but went ahead, 4-2, on an RBI single by Julio Cruz and a two-run single by Bruce Bochte. Bud Bulling iced the game with a two-run double in the ninth.

Braves 1, Cubs 0 at Atlanta (night game):
Combining on a five-hitter, Steve Bedrosian and Gene Garber pitched the Braves to a 1-0 whitewashing of the Cubs. Claudell Washington produced the game's only run when he drilled a solo homer in the sixth inning.

Reds 8, Cardinals 2 at Cincinnati (night game):
Frank Pastore scattered nine hits in a route-going performance, contributed two hits to Cincinnati's attack and scored twice as the Reds defeated the Cardinals, 8-2. The Reds scored two runs in the third inning when Pastore came in on a wild pitch and Ron Oester stroked an RBI single. Alex Trevino delivered a two-run single in the fifth and the Reds iced the game in the sixth on an RBI double by Oester, run-scoring single by Cesar Cedeno and sacrifice fly by Mike Vail.

Expos 4, Dodgers 2 at Los Angeles (night game):
Driving in three runs, Al Oliver led the Expos to a 4-2 triumph over the Dodgers. Oliver's sacrifice fly produced a first-inning run and the Expos went ahead to stay with a three-run rally in the fifth. Tim Wallach singled, Frank Taveras walked and both came home on a double by Oliver, who then tallied on a single by Gary Carter.

Astros 4, Pirates 3 at Pittsburgh (night game):
Phil Garner celebrated his 33rd birthday by hitting a three-run homer against his former team as the Astros shaded the Pirates, 4-3. The Astros took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI single by Jose Cruz. In the fourth frame, Alan Ashby singled, Art Howe walked and Garner followed with his second round-tripper of the year. The Bucs scored all their runs in the seventh stanza on a solo homer by Jason Thompson and two-run circuit clout by Mike Easler.

Phillies 3, Padres 1 at San Diego (night game):
A two-run homer by Bo Diaz in the 10th inning lifted the Phillies to a 3-1 decision over the Padres as Steve Carlton went the route to earn the victory. Gary Matthews hit a solo homer in the seventh to tie the game at 1-1 and led off the 10th with a single. George Vukovich forced Matthews at second but Diaz followed by hitting the first pitch into the left field seats.

Giants 5, Mets 4 at San Francisco (night game):
A three-run pinch-homer by Reggie Smith in the ninth inning lifted the Giants to a 5-4 victory over the Mets. The Giants were behind, 4-2, when Jim Wohlford singled and Jeff Ransom walked to start the bottom of the ninth. Neil Allen relieved Pete Falcone on the hill for New York and wild-pitched the runners to second and third before Smith, hitting for Johnnie LeMaster, delivered the game-winning hit.
