Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 6, Mariners 0 at Baltimore (night game):
Winning his first game of the season, Mike Flanagan twirled a three-hitter as the Orioles blanked the Mariners, 3-0. Rich Dauer cracked a homer in the first inning following a walk to Al Bumbry, and Gary Roenicke clouted his fifth round-tripper of the season with two mates aboard in the eighth. Despite allowing three hits and a walk, Flanagan faced the minimum number of batters -- two runners were erased on double plays, one was picked off, and Jim Essian was thrown out attempting to stretch a single.

Red Sox 6, Twins 2 at Boston (night game):
Dave Stapleton's inside-the-park homer -- the first at Fenway Park since 1976 -- capped a four-run first inning that sent the Red Sox to a 6-2 victory over the Twins and their 12th win in 13 outings. The Sox' outburst in the first began with walks to Jerry Remy and Dwight Evans. One out later, Carl Yastrzemski doubled home both runners. After Carney Lansford fanned, Stapleton sliced a liner to right which landed inches from a diving Mickey Hatcher. By the time the ball was relayed to the infield, Stapleton was rounding third. He beat the throw home with a head-first slide. Rich Gedman led off the fifth frame with a double and Rick Miller followed with a round-tripper, his first of the season.

Angels 5, Indians 4 at Cleveland (night game):
Pushing across a run in the top of the ninth inning, the Angels edged the Indians, 5-4. Rod Carew opened the ninth with a single and Fred Lynn walked. Carew moved to third on Reggie Jackson's long fly and came home on a sacrifice fly by Don Baylor. Reliever Don Aase retired all seven batters he faced, striking out five.

Royals 3, Brewers 2 at Milwaukee (night game):
Scoring all their runs in the sixth inning, the Royals hung on to shade the Brewers, 3-2. Greg Pryor led off the sixth with a homer and John Wathan singled with one out. George Brett followed with a grounder to second baseman Jim Gantner, whose throw was too late to get Wathan. Hal McRae then doubled, scoring both runners. Larry Hisle drilled a two-run homer in the seventh for the Brewers, but Dan Quisenberry came on to gain his eighth save.

A's 5, Yankees 2 at New York (night game):
A four-run rally in the eighth inning carried the A's to a 5-2 triumph over the Yankees. With Oakland trailing, 2-1, Jeff Burroughs opened the eighth with an infield hit and was replaced by pinch-runner Jimmy Sexton. After Rickey Henderson walked, Dwayne Murphy, who had tripled in a run in the third, stroked a single to score Sexton and bring on Rich Gossage in relief of Tommy John. Tony Armas singled to score Henderson, and Murphy came home on a sacrifice fly by Cliff Johnson. Armas reached third on a wild pitch and tallied on Joe Rudi's squeeze bunt.

Mets 6, Dodgers 3 at Los Angeles (night game):
A two-run single by Hubie Brooks was the key blow as the Mets defeated the Dodgers, 6-3 in 12 innings. The game was tied, 3-3, when George Foster led off the 12th with a single and was sacrificed to second by Dave Kingman. Joel Youngblood singled and John Stearns was hit by a pitch, loading the bases. Steve Howe replaced Terry Forster on the hill for Los Angeles and was greeted by Brooks' two-run single. The third run of the inning came on a groundout by Ron Gardenhire.

Braves 10, Pirates 4 at Pittsburgh (night game):
Claudell Washington hit a three-run homer and Glenn Hubbard went 4-for-5 and drove in three runs to lead the Braves to a 10-4 pounding of the Pirates. Washington's clout came in the fourth inning and snapped a 1-1 tie. A walk to Brett Butler and single by Hubbard preceded the blast. The Braves added three runs in the fifth on a two-run double by Phil Niekro and a single by Hubbard, who also drove in two runs with a single in the ninth.

Expos 8, Padres 2 at San Diego (night game):
Bill Gullickson scattered seven hits while striking out 10 batters in pitching the Expos past the Padres, 8-2. Two errors and a wild pitch enabled Montreal to take a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning. A two-run homer by Gary Carter capped a three-run eighth and the Expos registered their final marker on Al Oliver's single in the ninth.

Phillies 5, Giants 3 at San Francisco (night game):
Sid Monge pitched five scoreless relief innings to earn his first N.L. victory and Ed Farmer picked up his third save as the Phillies topped the Giants, 5-3. The Phils broke a 3-3 tie in the fourth inning on a walk to Ivan DeJesus, sacrifice by Monge and RBI double by Bob Dernier. In the eighth frame, Mike Schmidt doubled, went to third as Gary Matthews grounded out and came in on a sacrifice fly by Dick Davis.

Cardinals 9, Cubs 4 at St. Louis (night game):
Darrell Porter's two-run homer capped a five-run seventh inning that lifted the Cardinals to a 9-4 decision over the Cubs. The game was tied, 4-4, when Lonnie Smith began the bottom of the seventh by being hit by a pitch. He reached second on a balk, moved to third on a safe bunt by Ozzie Smith and scored on Keith Hernandez' single. After George Hendrick struck out, Dane Iorg singled in another run. Hernandez scored on a throwing error by catcher Jody Davis and Porter climaxed the rally with his round-tripper. Doug Bair pitched three scoreless innings in relief to earn the victory.
