Today's scores and summaries:

Angels 7, Orioles 2 at California (night game):
Don Baylor cracked a three-run homer and drove in four runs to pace the Angels to a 7-2 triumph over the Orioles. The Angels trailed, 2-1, in the sixth inning when Bobby Grich and Reggie Jackson singled and Baylor followed with his round-tripper.

White Sox 7, Tigers 4 at Detroit (day game):
Marc Hill, Tom Paciorek and Rudy Law hit homers to power the White Sox to their fifth straight victory, 7-4 over the Tigers. Hill belted a solo shot in the third inning and Greg Luzinski doubled home two runs later in the same frame. Paciorek connected with a mate on base to give the Sox a 5-4 lead in the eighth, and Law provided insurance with a two-run circuit swat in the ninth.

Brewers 12, Twins 1 at Milwaukee (day game):
Gorman Thomas cracked a three-run homer and Robin Yount contributed a triple and two singles to back the five-hit hurling of Mike Caldwell as the Brewers thrashed the Twins, 12-1. Thomas' blast capped a four-run third inning and was preceded by an intentional walk to Ted Simmons. The first run came on an RBI groundout by Ben Oglivie.

Indians 8, A's 5 at Oakland (day game):
Miguel Dilone slashed two doubles and drove in three runs to pace the Indians to an 8-5 victory over the A's. The Tribe tallied four times in the second inning on a run-scoring fielder's choice grounder by Mike Fischlin, two-run two-bagger by Dilone and a sacrifice fly by Toby Harrah that came after Dilone stole third. The Indians scored twice in the sixth on consecutive RBI doubles by Fischlin and Dilone.

Yankees 9, Mariners 4 at Seattle (night game):
Ron Guidry, who gave up five hits before being relieved in the eighth inning, was the winning pitcher and Rich Gossage earned his fourth save as the Yankees ended their four-game losing skein by downing the Mariners, 9-4. The Bronx Bombers scored three times in the third on a two-run triple by Jerry Mumphrey and RBI single by Dave Winfield.

Red Sox 2, Rangers 1 at Texas (night game):
Combining on a six-hitter, Chuck Rainey and Mark Clear pitched the Red Sox to a 2-1 decision over the Rangers. Boston scored both its runs in the sixth inning. Reid Nichols led off with an infield hit, Jerry Remy followed with a sacrifice bunt and pitcher Jon Matlack's throw to first was dropped by Pat Putnam for an error, putting runners on first and second. A double by Dwight Evans scored Nichols, and Remy scored the go-ahead marker on a groundout by Jim Rice.

Blue Jays 2, Royals 1 at Toronto (day game):
Although giving up 11 hits, Mark Bomback and Roy Lee Jackson combined to thwart several Kansas City scoring opportunities, enabling the Blue Jays to edge the Royals, 2-1. The Jays scored in their first turn at bat on a leadoff double by Damaso Garcia and two-out triple by Willie Upshaw. Ernie Whitt drilled a one-out triple in the fifth frame and scored on Alfredo Griffin's suicide squeeze. K.C. left the bases loaded in the eighth and had a man on third in the ninth when John Wathan grounded out to end the game.

Cubs 3, Astros 2 at Chicago (day game):
Stolen bases helped the Cubs to a 3-2 triumph over the Astros. Bump Wills bunted for a hit in the first inning, stole second, went to third on a passed ball and came home on a single by Keith Moreland. In the second inning, Junior Kennedy was safe at first on an error by third baseman Ray Knight, went to third on a single by Ryne Sandberg and tallied on a sacrifice fly by Dickie Noles. After Bill Madlock was walked intentionally, Jason Thompson singled to plate Ray. The Bucs were shut out on one hit for eight innings but tied the contest in the ninth on an RBI single by Madlock and an error by catcher Alex Trevino on a throw to the plate. Jason Thompson extended his hitting streak to 16 games.

Ozzie Smith then laid down a bunt that pitcher Rick Camp fielded but first baseman Chris Chambliss dropped the throw, enabling Lonnie Smith to race home with the decisive marker.
