Today's scores and summaries:

Yankees 6, Angels 5 at California (night game):
A four-run uprising in the fourth inning enabled the Yankees to prevail over the Angels, 6-5. The Yanks overcame a 2-1 deficit on an RBI single by Butch Hobson, Barry Foote's RBI double and a two-run single by Dave Collins. The final Yankee run came in the fifth when Dave Winfield walked, took third on a single by Ken Griffey and tallied as Bobby Murcer hit into a fielder's choice.

Royals 9, Brewers 7 at Kansas City (night game):
Completing the three-game series sweep, the Royals defeated the Brewers, 9-7, despite three home runs by Milwaukee's Paul Molitor. Greg Pryor, filling in for the injured George Brett, tripled home the Royals' first run in the second inning and broke a 2-2 tie in the fourth with a two-run double. Molitor's round-trippers came in the first, seventh and ninth innings with the bases empty.

Red Sox 4, Twins 1 at Minnesota (night game):
Two homers by Jim Rice led the Red Sox to a 4-1 triumph over the Twins. Rice blasted a leadoff round-tripper in the fourth inning and drilled a two-run shot in the ninth. The Sox scored in the eighth on a single by Glenn Hoffman.

A's 5, Orioles 4 at Oakland (day game):
Ineffective Baltimore relief pitching enabled the A's to shade the Orioles, 5-4. The A's trailed, 4-1, going into the bottom of the eighth, when Baltimore reliever Jim Palmer loaded the bases by yielding a single to Tony Phillips and walking Rickey Henderson and Dwayne Murphy. Palmer was yanked in favor of Tim Stoddard, who gave up a two-run single to Cliff Johnson. Stoddard then got the hook and Tippy Martinez came on to reload the bases by walking pinch-hitter Wayne Gross. Davey Lopes bounced into a home-to-first double play, but Dan Meyer followed with a two-run single that proved decisive.

Indians 8, Mariners 5 at Seattle (night game):
Joe Charboneau homered and drove in three runs to spark the Indians to an 8-5 victory over the Mariners. Charboneau singled home runners in the first and second innings and belted a solo homer in the fifth. Seattle catcher Jim Essian suffered a broken bone in his left ankle in a collision at the plate with Mike Hargrove in the first inning.

White Sox 9, Blue Jays 2 at Toronto (night game):
Recording his first complete game of the season, Dennis Lamp set down Toronto on six hits as the White Sox pounded out a 9-2 victory. The Pale Hose tallied in the first frame on RBI singles by Greg Luzinski and Harold Baines.

Braves 6, Cubs 3 at Chicago (day game):
A pinch-single by Ken Smith in the ninth inning drove in the go-ahead run as the Braves downed the Cubs, 6-3. The game was tied, 3-3, when Smith's hit chased home Larry Whisenton, who had walked, reached second on a sacrifice and taken third on a error.

Giants 3, Expos 2 at Montreal (night game):
Montreal errors allowed the Giants to win, 3-2. The Giants scored twice in the third inning when Jim Wohlford and Johnnie LeMaster were safe on consecutive misplays by third baseman Tim Wallach. Chili Davis bounced into a forceout, Joe Morgan walked to load the bases and first baseman Al Oliver failed to handle Tom O'Malley's grounder, Wohlford and Davis scoring on the play. Doubles by Wohlford and Davis produced the other Giants run.

Phillies 11, Dodgers 3 at Philadelphia (night game):
Ron Reed, making his first start since 1977, scattered six hits over seven innings to be the winning pitcher as the Phillies blasted the Dodgers, 11-3. The veteran righthander helped his own cause with a sacrifice fly in the second and RBI single in the fifth. Dodgers pitcher Bob Welch walked the bases loaded with two out in the first inning to set up a two-run single by George Vukovich. A streak of 18 consecutive stolen bases by the Phils' Bob Dernier was snapped in the second inning.
