Today's scores and summaries:

Angels 9, Indians 6 at California (night game):
Taking advantage of Cleveland misplays, the Angels posted a 9-6 triumph over the Indians. With the game tied, 5-5, Juan Beniquez led off the bottom of the seventh inning with a fly to right-center that center fielder Von Hayes dropped for a three-base error. One out later, Don Baylor singled Beniquez home and he scored later in the frame on a grounder by Rod Carew. A two-base error by Miguel Dilone contributed to two California runs in the eighth inning.

Brewers 8, White Sox 3 at Chicago (night game):
Rallying for three runs in the eighth inning, the Brewers went on to an 8-3 victory over the White Sox. The uprising was keyed by a two-run double by Don Money, who eventually scored on a squeeze bunt by Jim Gantner. The Brewers picked up an insurance run in the ninth on an RBI triple by Cecil Cooper, who scored the game's final run on an infield out.

Tigers 5, Twins 4 at Detroit (day game):
A homer by Lance Parrish in the bottom of the 10th inning gave the Tigers a 5-4 victory over the Twins. Parrish's blow came with one out on a 2-2 serve and snapped a 4-4 tie. The Twins had knotted the contest in the seventh stanza on a two-run homer by Randy Johnson.

Red Sox 10, Royals 5 at Kansas City (day game):
Driving in three runs, Tony Perez paced the Red Sox to a 10-5 thumping of the Royals. The Sox scored in the first frame on a walk to Dwight Evans, RBI double by Jim Rice and run-scoring single by Perez. A two-run double by Perez highlighted a five-run outburst in the fifth frame.

A's 7, Yankees 3 at Oakland (day game):
Rick Langford went the route on a six-hitter as the A's ended the Yankees' four-game winning skein, downing New York, 7-3. A four-run first inning was highlighted by a solo homer Dwayne Murphy and two-run single by Kelvin Moore. Jimmy Sexton hit a bases-empty homer in the second, his first round-tripper since 1977.

Mariners 3, Orioles 2 at Seattle (night game):
Pushing across a run in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Mariners edged the Orioles, 3-2. Jim Maler began Seattle's ninth with a single. One out later, Birds shortstop Bob Bonner booted Bud Bulling's grounder and Maler took second. Thad Bosley came in to run for Maler and Julio Cruz then singled to left, scoring Bosley with the winning run.

Blue Jays 5, Rangers 2 at Texas (night game):
Hitting in his 12th straight game, Barry Bonnell drove in three runs with a triple and homer as the Blue Jays downed the Rangers, 5-2, behind the four-hit pitching of Jim Clancy. The Jays tallied twice in their first turn at bat on a single by Garth Iorg, triple by Bonnell and an error by shortstop Mario Mendoza. Bonnell blasted a two-run homer in the fifth inning.

Cardinals 7, Braves 6 at Atlanta (night game):
The Braves failed to hold a lead in the ninth inning for the second straight night as the Cardinals scored once in the ninth and four times in the 10th to overcome Atlanta, 7-6. Keith Hernandez provided a run-scoring double for the equalizer off Gene Garber in the ninth. Garber made an errant throw to third base on a bunt to provide the Cards with the go-ahead run in the 10th and Lonnie Smith capped the rally with a three-run homer. Chris Chambliss stroked a three-run pinch-homer off Bruce Sutter in the bottom of the inning.

Astros 4, Cubs 1 at Houston (night game):
Don Sutton became the first N.L. pitcher to win six games by allowing only three hits in leading the Astros to a 4-1 victory over the Cubs. The Astros broke a 1-1 tie in the fourth inning on an RBI single by Phil Garner, who also contributed a run-scoring double in the eighth.

Padres 6, Expos 2 at Montreal (day game):
Tossing a four-hitter and driving in two runs, Chris Welsh led the Padres to a 6-2 triumph over the Expos. The Padres broke a 1-1 tie in the fifth inning on an RBI double by Joe Lefebvre and squeeze bunt by Welsh. Welsh also contributed a run-scoring single in a two-run seventh.

A three-run homer by Joel Youngblood highlighted a four-run first inning as the Mets posted a 6-3 triumph over the Dodgers. An RBI double by John Stearns preceded the three-run blast by Youngblood. After a two-run homer by Pedro Guerrero pulled the Dodgers to within 4-3 in the fourth, the Mets tallied twice in the fifth on a two-run single by Hubie Brooks.

Phillies 5, Giants 3 at Philadelphia (night game):
A two-run homer by Gary Matthews capped a three-run eighth inning that carried the Phillies to a 5-3 decision over the Giants.
