White Sox 8, Rangers 6 at Chicago (night game):
Driving in four runs with a homer and single, Carlton Fisk sparked the White Sox to an 8-6 decision over the Rangers. Fisk stroked a two-run single in the third inning and belted a two-run homer in the fifth. Harold Baines had a two-run single in the second and an RBI single in the eighth, and Jim Morrison tripled in the final Chicago run in the eighth. The Rangers rallied for five runs in the ninth with a bases-loaded triple by George Wright as the big blow.

Royals 7, Yankees 0 at Kansas City (night game):
Spacing seven hits, Larry Gura pitched the Royals to a 7-0 whitewashing of the Yankees. Kansas City took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Willie Aikens and put the game on ice with a four-run outburst in the seventh on an RBI single by John Wathan, run-scoring single by George Brett and two-run double by Hal McRae.

Expos 4, Braves 0 at Montreal (night game):
Steve Rogers tossed a two-hitter for his second shutout of the season, pitching the Expos to a 4-0 victory over the Braves. Al Oliver drilled a two-run triple in the third inning after successive infield singles by Terry Francona and Andre Dawson with two out. Warren Cromartie added a run-scoring single in the sixth and Tim Blackwell hit an RBI double in the eighth.

Reds 7, Mets 2 at New York (night game):
Charlie Leibrandt and Tom Hume combined to hurl the Reds to a 7-2 triumph over the Mets. The Reds tallied twice in the third inning on an RBI triple by Paul Householder and run-scoring groundout by Ron Oester, and picked up two more runs in the fourth on an RBI single by Mike Vail and error by New York shortstop Tom Veryzer. Eddie Milner cracked a two-run single in the ninth.

Astros 8, Phillies 1 at Philadelphia (night game):
The Astros ended the Phillies' seven-game winning streak, downing the Phils, 8-1, behind the four-hit hurling of Vern Ruhle. Houston exploded for five runs in the fifth inning on a run-scoring single by Craig Reynolds, two-run single by Terry Puhl and RBI singles by Ray Knight and Jose Cruz.
