Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 4, Twins 2 at Baltimore (night game):
A three-run homer by Benny Ayala was the big blow as the Orioles prevailed over the Twins, 4-2. Ayala's circuit clout came in the second inning after a rain delay of 81 minutes and delivered Ken Singleton, who had opened the frame with a walk, and Gary Roenicke, on base via a bunt single. Roenicke stroked an RBI single in the third inning.

Red Sox 6, Mariners 5 at Boston (night game):
A two-out double by Gary Allenson in the bottom of the 12th inning delivered the winning run as the Red Sox edged the Mariners, 6-5. With two out, Dave Stapleton singled to center and Allenson drilled a 3-2 pitch off the base of the wall in left-center. The Sox had tied the game in the bottom of the ninth on a two-out, run-scoring infield single by Jim Rice.

White Sox 6, Rangers 5 at Chicago (night game):
In a see-saw game, the White Sox finally prevailed over the Rangers, 6-5, with the winning run scoring on an error. Greg Luzinski singled with two out in the bottom of the ninth inning and was replaced by pinch-runner Jerry Hairston, who went to second on a single by Tom Paciorek. Marv Foley then hit a grounder up the middle for an infield single. Second baseman Doug Flynn tried to make a backhanded flip to shortstop Mario Mendoza and the ball rolled to the infield grass as Hairston raced home.

Blue Jays 8, Indians 5 at Cleveland (night game):
Scoring five runs in their last two turns at bat, the Blue Jays recorded an 8-5 decision over the Indians. The Jays tallied three times in the eighth on an RBI double by Rance Mulliniks, RBI single by Willie Upshaw and run-scoring double by Dave Revering. Ninth-inning runs came on an RBI double by Mulliniks and RBI single by Barry Bonnell.

Tigers 6, A's 3 at Detroit (night game):
Extending their winning streak to seven games, the Tigers bumped the A's, 6-3. Detroit scored four runs in the sixth inning on RBI singles by Alan Trammell and Enos Cabell and a two-run single by Mike Ivie. Kevin Saucier earned his fourth save by retiring the last seven Oakland batters.

Yankees 3, Royals 2 at Kansas City (night game):
Tommy John and Rich Gossage combined to twirl the Yankees to a 3-2 triumph over the Royals. The Yanks scored in the second inning on an RBI single by Graig Nettles, in the third on an RBI single by John Mayberry and in the fourth on a squeeze bunt by Willie Randolph that delivered Nettles, who had singled, stolen second and reached third on an infield single by Roy Smalley.

Angels 7, Brewers 2 at Milwaukee (night game):
A two-run homer by Reggie Jackson triggered the Angels to their seventh straight victory, a 7-2 verdict over the Brewers. Jackson staked the Angels to a 2-0 lead in the first inning when he clouted his round-tripper. Rod Carew, who had walked, scored ahead of him. Brian Downing delivered a two-run single in the fourth and Doug DeCinces cracked a leadoff homer in the ninth.

Dodgers 4, Cubs 1 at Los Angeles (night game):
A winner in his first major league start, Dave Stewart -- subbing for the injured Burt Hooton -- scattered five hits over eight innings as the Dodgers downed the Cubs, 4-1. The Dodgers scored three runs in the fourth inning on Steve Garvey's triple, a single by Mike Scioscia and Bill Russell's two-run homer. Pedro Guerrero stroked a run-scoring single in the seventh.

Braves 9, Expos 1 at Montreal (night game):
Bob Horner went 4-for-4 and drove in three runs as the Braves routed the Expos, 9-1, giving Ken Dayley his first big league victory. Atlanta took a 2-0 lead in the second inning on Chris Chambliss' single and a sacrifice fly by Bruce Benedict. Dale Murphy blasted a solo homer in the fourth, Horner doubled home two runs to cap a four-run fifth inning and added a run-scoring single in the seventh.

Mets 4, Reds 2 at New York (night game):
A three-run homer by Dave Kingman in the first inning triggered the Mets' 4-2 triumph over the Reds as Pat Zachry went the route on a seven-hitter. Kingman's blast came with Wally Backman and John Stearns aboard via singles. George Foster doubled home the other Mets run in the second.

Astros 5, Phillies 3 at Philadelphia (night game):
Completing the three-game series sweep, the Astros defeated the Phillies, 5-3. The Astros broke a 2-2 tie in the sixth inning on Ray Knight's single, a triple by Phil Garner and a run-scoring single by Kiko Garcia. In the eighth, Garner singled, stole second and tallied on Garcia's single.

Padres 5, Cardinals 4 at San Diego (night game):
Catcher Gene Tenace failed to touch home plate on a bases-loaded force play, enabling the Padres to shade the Cardinals, 5-4 in 10 innings. Alan Wiggins began the San Diego 10th with a bunt single, stole second and moved to third on Tim Flannery's sacrifice. Intentional walks to Garry Templeton and Ruppert Jones loaded the bases before Sixto Lezcano hit a grounder to third baseman Dane Iorg. The throw home beat Wiggins, but Tenace pulled his foot off the plate for an error as the winning run scored.

Pirates 2, Giants 1 at San Francisco (day game):
Omar Moreno's first homer of the year was the key blow as the Pirates edged the Giants, 2-1. Tony Pena opened the fifth inning by reaching third when Chili Davis dropped his long fly, and he scored on a single by Dale Berra. After Berra was picked off first, Moreno drilled his round-tripper off Mike Chris, who was making his first start for San Francisco.
