Today's scores and summaries:

Red Sox 7, A's 4 at Boston (day game):
Bob Stanley pitched 8 1/3 innings of three-hit relief as the Red Sox came from behind to down the A's, 7-4. The score was 4-4 when Carl Yastrzemski doubled in the eighth inning and was replaced by pinch-runner Reid Nichols, who went to third as Carney Lansford flied out, and scored on a single by Dave Stapleton. A double by Rich Gedman plated Stapleton and a double by Rick Miller chased Gedman home.

White Sox 7, Indians 3 at Chicago (night game):
Striking for four runs in the first inning, the White Sox recorded their sixth straight victory, 7-3 over the Indians. Tony Bernazard tripled home the first run and scored on a double by Greg Luzinski. A single by Harold Baines drove in the third run and Marc Hill's sacrifice fly delivered what proved to be the deciding run.

Tigers 5, Angels 1 at Detroit (day game):
Jack Morris, allowing only one hit before leaving the game with a stiff shoulder after seven innings, was the winning pitcher as the Tigers triumphed over the Angels, 5-1. Detroit scored in the second stanza on a leadoff double by Larry Herndon, single by Lance Parrish and run-scoring groundout by Tom Brookens, and kayoed Angels starter Angel Moreno in the fourth as Parrish tripled home two runs. Herndon went 2-for-4, giving him 13 hits in his last 21 at-bats.

Rangers 3, Royals 1 at Kansas City (night game):
Charlie Hough went the distance on a six-hitter as the Rangers prevailed over the Royals, 3-1 in 12 innings. The score was 1-1 when Leon Roberts opened the 12th with a single and then beat the throw to second on a sacrifice bunt by Mario Mendoza. After a single by Johnny Grubb loaded the bases, Randy Bass delivered a sacrifice fly and George Wright provided insurance with a run-scoring single.

Mariners 7, Brewers 1 at Milwaukee (day game):
Jim Maler belted his first grand slam to cap a seven-run third inning, and Gene Nelson pitched a four-hitter to lead the Mariners to a 7-1 triumph over the Brewers. The Mariners sent 10 batters to the plate in the third when they did all their scoring after two were out. The first three runs came on a two-run single by Gary Gray and an RBI single by Todd Cruz. The stage for Maler's blast was set when Brewers shortstop Robin Yount bobbled Dave Henderson's grounder to load the sacks.

Yankees 1, Twins 0 at New York (night game):
Combining on a five-hitter, the Yankees' Dave Righetti and Rich Gossage blanked the Twins, 1-0. The Yanks loaded the bases in the fifth inning on a pair of walks and an error and scored on Dave Collins' sacrifice fly.

Orioles 6, Blue Jays 0 at Toronto (day game):
The Orioles posted their fourth consecutive victory, 6-0 over the Blue Jays, behind the six-hit pitching of Dennis Martinez. The shutout extended the string of scoreless innings by Baltimore pitchers to 33. The Birds scored three runs in their first turn at bat on an RBI single by Ken Singleton and two-run homer by John Lowenstein. Rick Dempsey cracked a leadoff round-tripper in the fourth.

Phillies 5, Braves 2 at Atlanta (day game):
The Phillies ended their four-game losing streak by defeating the Braves, 5-2. The Phils took a 2-1 lead in the second inning on a run-scoring grounder by Manny Trillo and a wild pitch. A two-run double by Pete Rose keyed a three-run fifth.

Expos 4, Reds 2 at Cincinnati (night game):
The Expos handed Cincinnati its fourth straight defeat, topping the Reds, 4-2. Montreal picked up a run in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly by Al Oliver and added another when Warren Cromartie led off the fifth with a homer. Andre Dawson and Cromartie delivered RBI singles in the eighth.

Mets 6, Astros 5 at Houston (night game):
This game was deadlocked, 5-5, when John Stearns walked for the Mets with one out in the 12th, stole second and reached third on a flyout. Neil Allen then hit a slow roller down the third base line and Stearns broke for the plate. The ball was fielded by pitcher Randy Moffitt, who flipped to catcher Alan Ashby. Stearns crashed into Ashby and jarred the ball loose as he crossed the plate, giving the Mets a 6-5 win over the Astros. Houston had tied the contest in the bottom of the ninth on a grand slam by Terry Puhl.

Dodgers 3, Cardinals 2 at Los Angeles (night game):
A two-run single by Pedro Guerrero climaxed a three-run fifth inning that enabled the Dodgers to edge the Cardinals, 3-2. The Dodgers were behind, 2-0, when they loaded the bases in the fifth on a double by Bill Russell and walks to pinch-hitter Jay Johnstone and Steve Sax. Ken Landreaux stroked a sacrifice fly for the first run and, after Dusty Baker struck out, Guerrero singled to center for the game-winning hit.

Padres 12, Pirates 3 at San Diego (night game):
Sixto Lezcano and Terry Kennedy each hit homers and combined to drive in seven runs to lead the Padres to a 12-3 rout of the Pirates. Lezcano delivered a two-run round-tripper in the second inning and Kennedy blasted a three-run circuit clout in the third.

Cubs 2, Giants 1 at San Francisco (day game):
The surging Cubs posted their 10th victory in the last 15 games by edging the cellar-dwelling Giants, 2-1.
