Today's scores and summaries:
Red Sox 6, A's 0 at Boston (day game):
In a game shortened to 5½ innings because of rain, the Red Sox blanked the A's, 6-0. The Sox scored once in the second inning on Jerry Remy's single, and Jim Rice and Dave Stapleton belted solo homers in the third. The victory was Boston's fifth in a row and handed Oakland its sixth straight loss.
Indians 6, White Sox 4 at Chicago (night game):
A double by Ron Hassey was the key blow as the Indians snapped a four-game losing streak by beating the White Sox, 6-4 in 14 innings. The score was 4-4 when Andre Thornton opened the 14th with a single, reached second on a wild pitch and came in on the two-bagger by Hassey. Rick Manning then rapped a single that scored Hassey.
Angels 7, Tigers 2 at Detroit (day game):
Taking advantage of Detroit misplays, the Angels tamed the Tigers, 7-2, behind Steve Renko's four-hit pitching. California scored twice in each of the first two innings as Detroit committed three of its four errors. First-inning runs came on an error by third baseman Tom Brookens and a run-scoring forceout. Second-inning runs came on a throwing error by first baseman Richie Hebner and an RBI single by Bobby Grich.
Royals 5, Rangers 3 at Kansas City (day game):
A two-run pinch double by Cesar Geronimo climaxed a three-run eighth inning that lifted the Royals to a 5-3 decision over the Rangers. Trailing, 3-2, K.C. tied the game in the eighth on singles by Amos Otis, Hal McRae and Jerry Martin. Geronimo then hit his two-bagger to score McRae and Martin. Reliever Mike Armstrong recieved credit for his first A.L. victory.
Mariners 6, Brewers 5 at Milwaukee (day game):
A pinch single by Manny Castillo drove in the winning run as the Mariners edged the Brewers, 6-5 in 11 innings. Rick Sweet then walked and, one out later, Castillo drilled a hit to right to chase Henderson home.
Yankees 4, Twins 2 at New York (day game):
John Mayberry went 3-for-4 and drove in the tie-breaking runs to pace the Yankees to their fifth straight victory, a 4-2 decision over the Twins. The game was tied, 1-1, when the Yanks loaded the bases with one out in the seventh inning on a double by Andre Robertson and walks to Dave Collins and Oscar Gamble. Mayberry then drilled a single to center to give the Yanks a 3-1 lead. Graig Nettles cracked a leadoff homer in the eighth.
Blue Jays 7, Orioles 1 at Toronto (day game):

Barry Bonnell drilled a solo homer in the fifth and Damaso Garcia, extending his hitting streak to 10 games, rapped a two-run single in the sixth.

Walks to George Foster and Dave Kingman then loaded the bases before Backman scored on a wild pitch.
Dodgers 5, Cardinals 0 at Los Angeles (day game):
