Today's scores and summaries:

White Sox 7, Royals 5 at Chicago (night game):
Greg Luzinski slammed two homers and drove in six runs to lead the White Sox to a 7-5 victory over the Royals. Luzinski stroked a sacrifice fly in the first inning, two-run circuit clout in the fourth and three-run round-tripper in the fifth. Salome Barojas notched his 11th save in relief of winning pitcher Britt Burns.

A's 7, Brewers 2 at Milwaukee (night game):
Taking advantage of Milwaukee miscues, the A's defeated the Brewers, 7-2, behind the three-hit pitching of Tom Underwood. The A's scored a run in the second inning when Milwaukee pitcher Bob McClure walked the bases loaded with two out and then committed a balk. They added two runs in the fifth on a wild pickoff throw by McClure and an error by catcher Ned Yost. Mike Heath and Joe Rudi delivered RBI doubles in the seventh and Heath and Jeff Newman added RBI singles in the ninth.

Indians 2, Twins 1 at Minnesota (night game):
A one-out homer by Von Hayes in the ninth inning snapped a 1-1 tie and gave the Indians a 2-1 decision over the Twins for Minnesota's eighth straight loss. The Twins had deadlocked the contest in the sixth on an RBI single by Kent Hrbek.

Blue Jays 7, Yankees 0 at New York (night game):
The Blue Jays ended the Yankees' six-game winning streak, 7-0, behind the four-hit hurling of Dave Stieb. A sacrifice fly by Barry Bonnell produced a run in the first inning, and the Jays knocked out Rudy May with a four-run third on a two-run double by Bonnell, RBI double by Wayne Nordhagen and a sacrifice fly by Buck Martinez. Bonnell drove in his fourth run of the game with a sixth-inning single.

Mariners 4, Tigers 2 at Seattle (night game):
Gaylord Perry, pitching the first seven innings, registered his 301st career victory as the Mariners won their fourth straight game, 4-2 over the Tigers. Gary Gray drilled a two-run homer in the fourth inning and Al Cowens and Gray cracked RBI doubles in the sixth.

Rangers 5, Orioles 3 at Texas (night game):
A two-run homer by Johnny Grubb, his first circuit clout of the season, broke a 2-2 tie in the fifth inning and sent the Rangers on their way to a 5-3 triumph over the Orioles. Grubb's blast came with Buddy Bell on base via a walk. Texas added a run in the sixth on singles by Leon Roberts and Mike Richardt wrapped around a sacrifice by Doug Flynn.

Mets 6, Braves 4 at Atlanta (night game):
Wally Backman's first major league homer was the decisive blow as the Mets posted a 6-4 triumph over the Braves. The Mets trailed, 4-2, going into the fifth inning and scored one run on walks to George Foster and Dave Kingman and a single by Gary Rajsich. After Hubie Brooks bounced into a forceout, Backman unloaded a three-run circuit clout. Mets relievers Craig Swan and Neil Allen shut out the Braves over the final seven innings.

Reds 2, Phillies 0 at Cincinnati (night game):
Yielding just four hits, Mario Soto pitched the Reds to a 2-0 whitewashing of the Phillies. The righthander, who leads the majors in strikeouts with 87 in 78 innings, whiffed 10 batters while walking none. The Reds scored in the third inning on a single by Cesar Cedeno and in the eighth on a passed ball.

Expos 4, Astros 0 at Houston (night game):
Charlie Lea and Jeff Reardon combined on a two-hitter as the Expos recorded their sixth straight victory, 4-0 over the Astros in 10 innings. Lea retired 26 straight Houston batters. Montreal broke the 0-0 deadlock in the top of the 10th. Three walks loaded the bases and a sacrifice fly by Tim Raines produced the first run. Tim Wallach then slammed a three-run pinch-homer to ice the contest.

Dodgers 3, Pirates 2 at Los Angeles (night game):
A three-run homer by Dusty Baker in the first inning triggered the Dodgers' 3-2 decision over the Pirates. Baker's blast followed singles by Steve Sax and Jorge Orta. Winning pitcher Jerry Reuss was lifted in the seventh and Steve Howe came on to earn the save. The crowd of 41,594 boosted the L.A. home attendance to 1,040,208 for 24 dates, making the Dodgers the first team in the majors to go over the million mark.

Cubs 5, Padres 3 at San Diego (night game):
A two-run pinch-single by Gary Woods in the ninth inning lifted the Cubs to a 5-3 triumph over the Padres. The game was tied, 3-3, when Keith Moreland opened the ninth with a single and went to third on a single by Leon Durham. After pinch-hitter Dan Briggs struck out, Larry Bowa attempted a squeeze play but pitcher Luis DeLeon threw Moreland out at the plate. Woods then delivered the decisive hit.

Cardinals 8, Giants 4 at San Francisco (day game):
Completing the three-game series sweep, the Cardinals thumped the Giants, 8-4, as Tito Landrum led the way with a homer, double, single and three runs batted in.
