Angels 6, Brewers 5 at California (night game):
A homer by Don Baylor broke a 5-5 deadlock in the eighth inning, enabling the Angels to shade the Brewers, 6-5. California had tied the contest in the seventh on an RBI double by Fred Lynn, RBI single by Tim Foli and sacrifice fly by Bob Boone. Bobby Grich hit a two-run homer in the fourth.

Indians 5, White Sox 2 at Cleveland (night game):
Scattering five hits, John Denny pitched the Indians to their fifth consecutive victory, 5-2 over the White Sox. The Tribe scored all its runs in the third inning. Mike Hargrove produced the first two with a two-out, bases-loaded single. Andre Thornton's double to left plated Toby Harrah, and Hargrove and Thornton raced home when Steve Kemp's throw to second scooted past Tony Bernazard.

Yankees 10, Twins 5 at Minnesota (night game):
A grand slam by Graig Nettles climaxed a five-run outburst in the ninth inning that lifted the Yankees to a 10-5 victory over the Twins in a contest that featured eight homers. Oscar Gamble broke a 5-5 tie in the top of the ninth with a single prior to Nettles' blast. The loss extended Minnesota's losing streak to nine games.

Tigers 6, A's 4 at Oakland (night game):
Lou Whitaker smacked two homers to power the Tigers to a 6-4 victory over the A's. His second blast came in the ninth with Lance Parrish aboard via a single and snapped a 4-4 tie. Whitaker's first circuit smash led off the third inning. The A's had knotted the score in the seventh when Kevin Saucier uncorked two straight wild pitches.

Red Sox 3, Mariners 2 at Seattle (night game):
Homers by Reid Nichols and Carney Lansford sparked the Red Sox to a 3-2 victory over the Mariners, ending Seattle's winning skein at five games. Nichols connected for his first major league home run in the seventh and Lansford belted his circuit clout in the eighth following a double by Jim Rice. Nichols threw out a runner at the plate in the fifth inning and robbed Todd Cruz of an extra-base hit with a sensational catch in the seventh.

Rangers 8, Royals 2 at Texas (night game):
Blasting off with a four-run first inning, the Rangers went on to an 8-2 triumph over the Royals as Charlie Hough recorded his fifth complete game of the season. Texas scored in the first on a two-run single by Johnny Grubb, RBI single by Jim Sundberg and run-scoring groundout by Lamar Johnson. Grubb drilled a solo homer in the fifth and Johnson cracked a two-run round-tripper in the eighth.

Cubs 4, Dodgers 3 at Chicago (day game):
A two-run homer by Keith Moreland and two-run double by Ryne Sandberg enabled the Cubs to edge the Dodgers, 4-3. Moreland's blast came in the fourth inning following a single by Bill Buckner. Sandberg drilled his two-bagger with the bases loaded in the fifth. Randy Martz pitched 7 1/3 innings to gain the victory while Bill Campbell, taking over with two men on and none out in the ninth, earned the save.

Expos 4, Reds 2 at Montreal (night game):
The Expos registered their sixth straight victory with a 4-2 triumph over the Reds, behind the six-hit hurling of Scott Sanderson. Montreal scored three runs in their first turn at bat on an RBI double by Andre Dawson, a wild pitch, and an RBI single by Tim Wallach. Gary Carter slammed a solo homer in the sixth.

Astros 8, Mets 3 at New York (night game):
In a game played in a steady rain from the second inning on, the Astros snapped their five-game losing streak by downing the Mets, 8-3. Terry Puhl hit the third pitch of the game for a homer and Houston scored two more runs iin the opening frame on an error by New York shortstop Tom Veryzer and a sacrifice fly by Danny Heep. Nolan Ryan struck out 11 batters before leaving the game in the sixth.

Giants 10, Pirates 5 at Pittsburgh (night game):
Jack Clark hit two homers and drove in five runs to pace the Giants to a 10-5 thumping of the Pirates. Clark's first blast came in the first inning with two mates aboard, and he added a two-run round-tripper in the fourth.

Cardinals 5, Padres 2 at St. Louis (night game):
Willie McGee had two hits and scored three runs to spark the Cardinals to a 5-2 decision over the Padres. McGee tripled in the first inning and scored on a grounder by Lonnie Smith, led off the third with a single and eventually came in on a sacrifice fly by Keith Hernandez and he walked in the eighth, stole second and scored on a single by Lonnie Smith.
