Today's scores and summaries:

Blue Jays 6, Orioles 0 at Baltimore (day game):
Jim Gott and Roy Lee Jackson combined on a one-hitter -- a fifth-inning single by Rick Dempsey -- in pitching the Blue Jays to a 6-0 blanking of the Orioles. The Jays scored twice in their first turn at bat on Dave Revering's single and a run-scoring groundout by Barry Bonnell. A two-run single by Damaso Garcia was the big blow of a four-run ninth.

Brewers 7, Angels 3 at California (day game):
Homers by Cecil Cooper, Ted Simmons and Ben Oglivie rallied the Brewers to a 7-3 victory over the Angels. Cooper delivered a two-run shot that capped a four-run outburst in the fifth inning and Simmons and Oglivie drilled leadoff round-trippers in the sixth and ninth innings, respectively. Jim Slaton went 7 1/3 innings to get the win and Jamie Easterly earned his first save of the season.

Indians 4, White Sox 2 at Cleveland (day game):
Homers by Andre Thornton and Toby Harrah powered the Indians to their seventh straight victory, 4-2 over the White Sox. Thornton walloped a three-run blast in the third inning following consecutive walks to Harrah and Mike Hargrove. Harrah's round-tripper led off the bottom of the seventh inning.

Yankees 8, Twins 6 at Minnesota (day game):
The Yankees dealt the Twins their 11th straight loss, 8-6 in 10 innings. The game was tied, 6-6, when Dave Collins led off the 10th with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice by Butch Wynegar and scored on a single by Willie Randolph. Oscar Gamble then doubled in Randolph to provide insurance. The Twins had battled back from a 6-0 deficit to tie the game in the eighth on a two-out double by Gary Ward.

[DH] Tigers 5, A's 2 (day game) / A's 10, Tigers 3 at Oakland (day game):
The Tigers and A's divided a doubleheader, the Tigers winning the opener, 5-2, behind the seven-hit hurling of Jack Morris, and the A's taking the nightcap, 10-3, as Rickey Henderson stole four bases to boost his total to 49 in 49 games. A two-run single by Alan Trammell put the Tigers ahead to stay in the first game, and Enos Cabell delivered a two-run single in the sixth. The A's broke the second game open with a three-run uprising in the fifth inning, runs coming on an error by Detroit catcher John Wockenfuss, a single by Henderson and solo homer by Dwayne Murphy. Henderson singled home two runs in the eighth inning.

Mariners 2, Red Sox 1 at Seattle (night game):
Rallying with two out in the ninth inning, the Mariners edged the Red Sox, 2-1. Seattle trailed, 1-0, when Bobby Brown led off the bottom of the ninth with a walk. Two outs later, Richie Zisk drilled a double to right-center that tied the game at 1-1. Mark Clear then replaced John Tudor as the Bosox' pitcher. Lenny Randle went in to run for Zisk and scored the winning run when Gary Gray drove a long double to left.

Rangers 8, Royals 1 at Texas (day game):
Billy Sample drilled two homers and Dave Hostetler smacked his first big league round-tripper as the Rangers breezed past the Royals, 8-1. Sample blasted the first pitch served to him in the first inning into the left field seats and added a solo shot in the eighth. Hostetler connected with the bases empty in the third. Doc Medich scattered six hits in going the route for the first time this season.

Dodgers 7, Cubs 0 at Chicago (day game):
Striking out nine batters while walking none, Fernando Valenzuela pitched the Dodgers to a 7-0 shutout of the Cubs. The Dodgers scored in the first inning on a groundout by Jorge Orta, in the fourth on Valenzuela's single and in the fifth on a solo homer by Pedro Guerrero. Steve Garvey hit a two-run homer in the ninth.

Reds 7, Expos 3 at Montreal (day game):
Mike Vail's three-run homer capped a four-run seventh inning that rallied the Reds to a 7-3 triumph over the Expos, ending Montreal's eight-game winning streak. The Reds put the game on ice in the eighth on Eddie Milner's two-run homer.

Mets 9, Astros 5 at New York (day game):
A two-run homer by George Foster in the first inning triggered the Mets' 9-5 victory over the Astros. New York tallied twice more in the first on singles by Bob Bailor and Tom Veryzer. The Mets scored three runs in the second on an error by Houston shortstop Craig Reynolds, Ellis Valentine's single and a triple by Hubie Brooks.

Phillies 6, Braves 2 at Philadelphia (day game):
Steve Carlton, striking out 11 batters in eighth innings, evened his record at 6-6 as the Phillies prevailed over the Braves, 6-2. The Phils scored three runs in their first turn at bat on a two-run double by Gary Matthews and a double by Garry Maddox. Carlton doubled home one run in the fourth and Dave Roberts added a two-run two-bagger.

Pirates 7, Giants 6 at Pittsburgh (day game):
A solo homer by Johnny Ray in the 13th inning, his fourth hit of the game, lifted the Pirates to a 7-6 victory over the Giants. The Giants went ahead, 6-5, in the top of the 11th on a sacrifice fly by Bob Brenly but the Bucs again knotted the count in the bottom of the frame on Bill Madlock's sacrifice fly, setting the stage for Ray's one-out heroics.

Cardinals 6, Padres 5 at St. Louis (day game):
Staging three-run rallies in the ninth and 10th innings, the Cardinals triumphed over the Padres, 6-5. The Redbirds trailed, 3-0, going into the bottom of the ninth, but tied the game on Lonnie Smith's double, a fielder's choice by Julio Gonzalez and a sacrifice fly by pinch-hitter Tommy Herr. Then, after the Padres tallied twice in the top of the 10th, George Hendrick singled and scored on a double by Lonnie Smith.
