Red Sox 5, Angels 1 at California (day game):
The Red Sox handed the Angels their seventh straight defeat, 5-1. The Sox broke a 1-1 tie in the seventh inning on an RBI single by Rick Miller and sacrifice fly by Jerry Remy. Gary Allenson hit his first homer of the year following a walk to Glenn Hoffman in the ninth. Mark Clear registered his 10th save of the season, giving him nine saves and four victories in his last 15 appearances.

Tigers 10, Mariners 2 at Detroit (day game):
Sending Gaylord Perry to the showers with a six-run attack in the first inning, the Tigers romped past the Mariners, 10-2, behind the three-hit pitching of Dan Petry. Detroit tallied in the first on an RBI single by Mike Ivie, error by Seattle shortstop Todd Cruz, three-run double by Lance Parrish and run-scoring double by Alan Trammell.

Orioles 7, Twins 5 at Minnesota (day game):
A two-run homer by Eddie Murray in the 11th inning lifted the Orioles to a 7-5 decision over the Twins. The score was 5-5 when Jim Dwyer opened the 11th with a pinch-single but was forced at second by Dan Ford. Murray then clouted his round-tripper. The Twins had tied the game in the ninth on a triple by Kent Hrbek and sacrifice fly by Jesus Vega after a solo pinch-homer by Terry Crowley had given the Birds a 5-4 lead in the top of that frame.

Royals 14, Yankees 1 at New York (day game):
Willie Aikens went 5-for-6 and drove in four runs as the Royals battered the Yankees, 14-1. Aikens, who tied a club record with three doubles, was supported in the 22-hit assault by George Brett with four hits and John Wathan and Hal McRae with three RBIs each. K.C. scored four runs in the third inning on a three-run triple by McRae and run-scoring double by Aikens, and broke the game apart with eight runs in the sixth inning as 13 men went to the plate.

Brewers 7, A's 2 at Oakland (day game):
Completing the three-game series sweep, the Brewers defeated the A's, 7-2. The Brewers broke on top with four runs in their first turn at bat on a single by Robin Yount, walk to Don Money, two-run double by Gorman Thomas and two-run homer by Ted Simmons. A's manager Billy Martin was ejected in the sixth inning for bench jockeying. It was the third time this season Martin had been thrown out of a game.

Rangers 5, White Sox 4 at Texas (night game):
A double by Jim Sundberg in the eighth inning drove home the winning run as the Rangers edged the White Sox, 5-4. With the game tied, 4-4, Mark Wagner stroked a two-out single, moved to third on a single by George Wright and tallied on Sundberg's two-bagger. The Rangers had knotted the count in the seventh when Sox reliever Jerry Koosman uncorked a wild pitch with Lamar Johnson on third. Dave Schmidt, despite making a throwing error that permitted two runs to score, was credited with his first victory of the season.

[DH] Blue Jays 5, Indians 1 (day game) / Indians 7, Blue Jays 5 at Toronto (night game):
The Blue Jays snapped the Indians' 11-game winning streak by taking the first game of a doubleheader, 5-1, behind the four-hit hurling of Dave Stieb, but the Tribe came back to capture the nightcap, 7-5. The Jays took a 2-1 lead in the seventh inning of the lidlifter on successive homers by Willie Upshaw and Dave Revering. Lloyd Moseby hit a two-run homer in a three-run eighth that put the game on ice. A four-run rally in the eighth inning carried the Tribe to their second-game victory. Trailing 4-3, the Indians scored on a bases-loaded walk to Toby Harrah, Mike Hargrove's tie-breaking single and a two-run single by Von Hayes.

Expos 6, Braves 3 at Atlanta (day game):
Gary Carter and Chris Speier delivered run-scoring singles in the eighth inning, lifting the Expos to a 6-3 victory over the Braves. Andre Dawson opened the eighth with a double, went to third on a single by Al Oliver and scored on a single by Carter to break a 3-3 tie. Two outs later, Speier singled to plate Oliver.

Giants 5, Cubs 3 at Chicago (day game):
A pinch-double by Duane Kuiper ignited a two-run rally in the seventh inning that carried the Giants to a 5-3 decision over the Cubs, Chicago's seventh consecutive loss. The score was 3-3 when Kuiper doubled to open the seventh, advanced to third as Joe Morgan grounded out and scored on a sacrifice fly by Jim Wohlford. Chili Davis, who had a two-run homer in the first inning, followed with a walk and scored an insurance tally.

Mets 6, Reds 3 at Cincinnati (day game):
A three-run homer by Ron Hodges in the second inning triggered the Mets to a 6-3 victory over the Reds. George Foster delivered a sacrifice fly in the third, Joel Youngblood drilled a leadoff homer in the eighth and Mookie Wilson stroked an RBI single in the ninth. Neil Allen, pitching out of a ninth-inning jam, gained his 14th save.

Astros 7, Phillies 6 at Houston (night game):
A three-run rally in the bottom of the ninth inning gave the Astros a 7-6 triumph over the Phillies. Dickie Thon singled and went to third on a double by Alan Knicely. After Warren Brusstar replaced Sparky Lyle on the hill for the Phils, Danny Heep drilled a pinch-single to drive in two runs and tie the score. Terry Puhl followed with a single and, one out later, Jose Cruz walked to load the bases. Phil Garner then singled off Brusstar's glove as Heep raced home with the winning run.

Pirates 2, Padres 1 at Pittsburgh (day game):
A single by Tony Pena scored Lee Lacy from second base with the winning run in the ninth inning to give the Pirates a 2-1 victory over the Padres and hand Tim Lollar his first defeat of the season. With the game tied, 1-1, Lacy opened the bottom of the ninth with a single, reached second on a sacrifice and, after an intentional walk to Jason Thompson, raced home on Pena's hit.

Dodgers 5, Cardinals 3 at St. Louis (day game):
Los Angeles trailed, 3-2, when Ron Roenicke opened the ninth inning with a pinch-single and was forced at second by Bill Russell. Rick Monday followed with a pinch-single and Steve Sax clouted a three-bagger to deep center to plate Russell and Monday before Sax scored on a sacrifice fly by Ken Landreaux as the Dodgers struck for three runs for a 5-3 triumph over the Cardinals.
